Through the explanation of perceptive phenomena such as apophenia and pareidolia, the essay deepens the study of the imaginations related to the painting of the Virgin of Guadalupe, an iconographic-cultural crux that attests to the meeting that took place in the sixteenth century between European and Mesoamerican culture, which turns out to be a real collection of hidden images. Furthermore, the example of the Virgin of Guadalupe, and her acheropite image, says a lot about the many nuances of Marian identity which, although strongly rooted in the sacred sphere of Christianity, goes beyond the limits of the symbolic to embrace the most vast and secular horizon of the visual culture.
