Abstract

Abstract. Cognitive dysfunction isa core feature of schizophrenia.Patients with schizophrenia shownperform poorly on tasks that requirevigilance or sustained attention.Patients with more pronouncedattention deficits are least likelyto acquire skills in psychosocialprograms as the attention problemsmakes it difficult for them to processthe information given in groups, and they may not be able to sustainattention for the session duration. The study aimed to develop a VirtualReality cognitive training to improvethe selective, divide and sustainedattention. Specifically, we developed, via the NeuroVr 2.0 software, threedifferent virtual environments withthe hierarchical sequences of tasks. The study included two clinicalsamples of patients suffering fromschizophrenia disorder: experimentalgroup (9 patients) treated withpharmacological therapy and VirtualReality cognitive training (10 weeklyindividual sessions); control group (6patients) received pharmacologicaltherapy and Integrated PsychologicalTreatment.
