Much has been written on the "horcynusa language" of Stefano D’Arrigo and his majestic Horcynus Orca, a novel in which a new linguistic code is baptized based on stratification and virtuosic neology whose purpose is not so much to indicate precisely as to evoke.Far less studied, probably due to the use of a dry, scientific, almost anonymous language, is the epigone novel of his literary career, Cima delle nobildonne, which appeared after a long ten-year break in 1985.The reasons for the title all lie in the will / opportunity / need to conceal the anthroponym that inspired the narrative, that of the only female pharaoh of ancient Egypt, Hatshepsut. Certainly what inspires the novel's protagonist, Dr. Planika, is the removal of the figure of the pharaohess, an adolescent queen at the time of her installation on the throne, threatened by the uncomfortable presence of her stepson Thutmosi. Between repressed, evocative, partial, manipulated names, the whole novel constructs a life-death dynamic centered on the placenta. The whole novel revolves, in fact, around an anguish of death and sterility, embodied and at the same time sublimated by the hermaphrodite Amina, who undergoes an inconceivable operation to become a woman who will never be able to procreate, unlike the "three very young Wife Elderly ”of the Emir Saad Ibn as-Salah, convinced that he is the reincarnation of Pharaoh Narmer, the first to carry his own placenta in procession.
