Abstract
The paper analyses the transformation dynamics of the south-east corridor of the metropolitan city of Palermo with the aim of contributing to contemporary debate on suburbs in a metropolitan perspective. From the description of the case study analysed, the contribution outlines possible perspectives for the territorial re-balancing of peripheral areas by identifying the overcoming of a concentric hierarchical metropolis and the adherence to more mature post-metropolization processes involving multilevel policies as a tool for generating a polycentric settlement system founded on a shared and participatory vision.
