Giovanni Anceschi stated a few years ago his disappointment for the lack, in Italy, of stories, rather than microstories bound to geographic areas or protagonists, capable of covering, with specific texts, a still existing theoretical emptiness, a clear sign of a difficulty in the construction of a critical literature regarding graphic and visual design.By now, and Pino Grimaldi would underline it very clearly, we must resign to the idea of speaking of design in its' disciplinary completeness, without getting lost in the lengthy and often useless activity of detailed cataloguing. The boundaries are too broad, the overlappings too wide, the maps too indefinite. Perhaps we could speak of vision design, as Beppe Chia has been stating for years, a definition that may guarantee various diverse positions, while defending a strictly "graphic" focus area.
