N2 - Summary: The essay explores the historical and constructive aspects of the floors with metal frames from the late eighteenth century to the last war. After a general section which outlines the rationale and the initial stages of the use of ferrous materials in construction, it will track and analyze a number of evolutionary lines of the metal beam, until the double T section which, in its own right, it is considered the culmination of research into the most convenient form for obvious reasons of static efficiency, even with subsequent refinements in the production, calculation and implementation. It is hypothesized evolution through the ways of the wooden-iron combination, cast iron, wrought iron bars, sheet metal: for each of these ways we have analyzed the main characters in the area of European technical culture.Another field that is investigated, closely connected with the previous ones, is that of the filling of the fields between the frames, of which it is analyzed the constructive aspect, despite the great variability of the determined types. Through a great number of manuals, the technical literature from the late eighteenth century to the present day and yard findings, they are thorough types, closely related and dependent on the different conformations main frames, the progress of production and executive structure, the level of qualities which it was intended to achieve. From wood to brick and drawn hollow tiles, from the plate and iron thin bars up to plaster and the concrete slabs. In conclusion it is given a reasoned repertoire of consolidation methods of the floors with metal frames, from those more in vogue in the post-conflict phase to the most recent and advanced ones.
