In Sicily, the unbalanced distribution of transport infrastructure in the region strongly penalizes the southern coast and Agrigento in particular that, in the event of significant potential demand for mobility, remains far from highways and airports, is close to the port of Porto Empedocle with great potential, but currently underutilized and is crossed by a railway network obsolete and partly dismantled. In the last forty years, however, does not lack in Agrigento the massive construction of road infrastructure particularly expensive, invasive and strong impact on the area, featuring several problematic mainly due to: the complexity of the polycentric urban structure; the presence of the vast archaeological area that stands between the different settlements of ancient and newly formed; the unresolved relationship between road infrastructure and landscape; the inadequate connections between the road infrastructure of territorial and urban roads minute, the shortage of parking spaces.
