In "I miracoli di Val Morel" (1971) - a collection of imaginary votive paintings from the Belluno valley and dedicated to Santa Rita - Dino Buzzati contrasts two female types: the sinner and the saint; the luxurious woman and the chaste woman; the woman of temptation and the woman of salvation; the woman who exposes her body to the male gaze and the modest woman in Augustinian clothes. The two female figures are not, however, a simple contrast between two types of ideal woman, aesthetic or moralizing, but their presence, in the verbal and visual text, is closely linked to the strategies of truth or, otherwise said, the search for truth, the central theme of the entire work.
