Abstract
This contribution investigates about the sense of the history of “demology” (popular culture) as a part, together with anthropology and ethnology, of the so-called demoethno-anthropological disciplines according to the classification of the Italian Ministry. It proposes a reflection about the history of demology in the Italian tradition as it has been summarised in the main university textbooks, and puts it into question the opportunity to follow the tripartite division, as if it was still consistent with the mainfeatures of contemporary research.
