Abstract
Starting from the definition of “Solar Architecture” and from the analysis of the advantages deriving from the use of design techniques related to it, some hypotheses of intervention on Palermo’s Fish Market at Cala are illustrated here, aimed at its formal and functional reconfiguration also taking into consideration the presence of the remains of the 16th century Church of Santa Maria di Piedigrotta. Through the redesign of the building envelope and the building’s reconfiguration, those remains may be valorized and highlighted, becoming a part of a solar architecture finally able to let the Cala shine again.
