The paper introduces the results of radar surveys performed on ancient buildings in Sicily and demonstrates it is an essential feature to operate in the context of historical and artistic value. The applications here presented pursue the purpose of making the stratigraphic reading without working in a destructive way and recognize the typology of structures and materials. Radar investigation was sometimes applied in order to evaluate the depth of cracks and the efficacy of the consolidation technique. The survey on the majolica-tiled floor is the most original application, developed by applying experimental software designed to make radar maps interact with other types of graphs. A correct diagnosis marks the beginning of the curative treatment and radar plays a key role in each restoration measure taken to consolidate structures and materials.
