Abstract

The research program, starting from the unfired clay, aims at designing new nano-composites, a new class of materials characterized by a dispersion of ultra-fine phases, typically of the order of a few nanometers; such a dispersion confers to the nanocomposites unique properties not shared with the conventional composites or micro-composites. In other words, the research aims at enhancing the unfired clay properties with the nanostructured reinforcements to improve the chemical and physical performances of the final product. The research involves aspects dealing with the tradition and the innovation as a criterion to renew the constructive practice.
