«Poor, good, melancholic Italy». The cartographies of OrioVergani Vergani's intellectual, literary and artistic parable evolves in the sign of the inexhaustible geographical and cultural travel through emblematic places of the most crucial epochal junctions of the twentieth century. In the diachronic crossing of this complex microcosm, an ideological and political path of adherence to Fascism is outlined, never denied but experienced in a problematic way, especially close to the war. In the mediated forms with which these disturbances meander through Vergani's writing, journalism, non-fiction, inventiveness, public and private, the treatment of places has a fundamental cognitive and interpretative centrality, configuring topographies in which documentary cross-section, corporate analysis and narrative suggestion coexist. A peculiar anthropological depth assumes the geography of the nation that is being drawn in the passionate odeporic tale of the Tour of Italy, also permeated, from the forties until the death of the journalist in 1960, by the reverberation of painful meditations generated by the tragic experience of war.
