The need to explore, analyse, and organise a composite, often unknown panorama is the rationale behind the biennial prize AWDA, which is going to become international in the next edition. It is a prize for women who deal with visual communication design at different levels: alongside the individual women designers and their projects, that were of great interest to us nonetheless, the prize has involved the whole supply chain to which each of them belongs, thus drawing up a complex scenario that brings together plenty of different competences in the area of design – photographer, illustrator, type designer, copy writer, web designer, architect, exhibition designer – as well as the worlds revolving around these figures and enabling a natural shift from self-production (which was, however, envisaged in the call) to industrial production and distribution – manufacturers of paper and materials, printers, publishers, distributors etc. – which are closely connected to the socio-economic reality of our country, in particular at the local level.
