The oxidative stress results from a change in thephysiological balance between oxidant and antioxidantspecies. This type of stress is a chemicalchange in the redox state of cells. The increased production of reactive species isrelated to an excessive metabolic activation, forexample, from an intense physical exercise or anexcessive caloric intake (1). In physiological conditions, muscle fibers are provided with an antioxidantsystem able to keep under control the excessiveproduction of Reactive Oxygen Species(ROS).
