N2 - In theso-calledphotocatalyticozonation(PO)synergisticeffectsbetweenphotocatalysisandozonationenhance therateofoxidationoforganiccompounds,thereforethisintegratedprocessisverypromisingfor useinwatertreatment.Inthepresentwork,itisdemonstratedthattheimprovementthatcanbeobtained bytheintegratedprocessincomparisonwiththeuncoupledprocessesdependsontherelativeweight between photocatalysis and ozonation. In this respect, it has been found that a relatively low rate of photocatalysis (0.3 times the rate of ozonation)issufficienttogetthehighestsynergyandtomaximizethe performancesintheoxidationofformate,theadoptedmodelorganiccompound.Thebenefitsofthe couplingofphotocatalysistoozonationarenotlimitedtotheincreaseoftheoxidationrate,butinclude alsothecontroloftheozonationby-productofmainconcern(bromate).TheeffectofthepH,ofthe presenceofoxidizableorganiccompounds,ofthepresenceofnitrogenontheformationoronthereduction ofbromateareexperimentallystudiedanddiscussed.Theobtainedresultshaverelevanceforthe practicalapplicationsofPO,sinceonthesebasesitispossibletoidentifyproperoperatingconditions.
