The standard treatment for malignant neoplasia of the cervicofacialarea is surgery in association with radio- and/orchemotherapy. These therapies can cause local and systemiccomplications. Mucositis is the most common dosecorrelatedcomplication to the oral cavity. It is particularlydifficult to treat in patients who are already physically andpsychologically exhausted by the tumoral pathology. Thisstudy illustrates, through a review of the literature, theattack rate, the pathogenesis and the clinical course of themucositis, as well as the correct dental approach and clinical-therapeutic management of these patients, with theaim of improving the quality of their lives.
