Abstract

This paper summarizes three recent, novel algorithms developedwithin VAMPIRE, namely optic disc and macula detection, arteryveinclassification, and enhancement of binary vessel masks, andtheir performance assessment. VAMPIRE is an international collaborationgrowing a suite of software tools to allow efficient quantificationof morphological properties of the retinal vasculature in largecollections of fundus camera images. VAMPIRE measurementsare currently mostly used in biomarker research, i.e., investigatingassociations between the morphology of the retinal vasculature anda number of clinical and cognitive conditions.
