Abstract
The official statistics on the movements of the immigrant population ofthe last 20 years in Sicily show a signi cant increase in foreign presences. Movements go beyond the seasonal dimension and are concentrated in non- urban areas with a greater agricultural vocation, where there are also high levels of economic innovation (Trapani and Ragusa). It is often a phenomenon with paradoxical outlines, considering that the economic results of quality agriculture are counterbalanced bythe conditions in which immigrantslive and work, being denied the rightto the city and citizenship. Therefore, there is a signi cant interdependence between agricultural development and foreign presences that this paper intends to deepen by analyzing the spatial consequences of migration and the weakness of local policies.
