Based on a wealth of archival documentation, this work reconstructs the musical landscape of Palermo in the 16th and 17th centuries starting from the role played by religious orders. The three parts of the volume investigate liturgical and festive occasions, the protagonists of musical activities, forms of financing and music chapels, demonstrating that the promotion of musical events constituted a powerful tool to consolidate the prestige of the communities to which they belonged.
