title = "Musica e architettura. Le opere di Igor Stravinsky per la basilica di San Marco a Venezia",
abstract = "September 13th 1956, Stravinsky conducted at the basilica of St. Mark in Venice the first performance of the {"}Canticum Sacrum{"} (1955), together with the {"}Choral-Variations on the Christmas Carol Vom Himmel hoch...” (1955-56). This work is not only the transcription for mixed chorus and orchestra of the {"}Canonische Var{\"a}nderungen{"} BWV 796-796a, but also an original and creative reinvention of Bach{\textquoteright}s organ masterpiece of 1746-47, that has a deep relation with the architectural structure of the church. In {\textquoteleft}Variations II-V{\textquoteright} the composer introduced the chorus, but singing only the first four verses of Martin Luther{\textquoteright}s text, and under some aspects the score reveals - like the musice of the {"}Canticum Sacrum{"} - the attraction of Stravinsky towards the music of Anton Webern.",
