Openness and children's 'right to know' about their genetic background have become key issues in debates about adoption and a significant shift towards transparency has taken place in Italian policy frameworks. But the hypothesis about feasibility of open adoption finds still evident constraints and limitations in the Italian adoption law, which protects the right of mother to anonymity rather than children's right to origin and identity. Nevertheless, recent researches have showed the importance of talking through openness in adoption, namely attitude of family life at communicate with honesty and sincerity about biology and biography of own children.
