Lessico, onomasiologia e contatto dialettale tra competenza, uso e rappresentazione metalinguistica nell’Atlante Linguistico della Sicilia

Risultato della ricerca: Articlepeer review

The present work deals with two different typologies of data from the sociovariational questionnaire of the Atlante Linguistico della Sicilia (ALS): on the one side, the data testing lexical knowledge and competence (question I of the third part of the questionnaire), on the other, those regarding the linguistic differences perceived from a diatopic point of view (questions 16th-17th-18th of the second part of the questionnaire). Once introduced the extralinguistic factors, the means and the spatial-cognitive oppositions by which speakers structure their own “spazio vissuto” (“lived space”) together with the interpretation patterns of complex data such as those from ALS, the article focuses on a spatial analysis of the lexical outputs based on a selection of spots/microareas from the ALS survey network. In particular, in order to investigate the dynamics of linguistic innovation vs. linguistic maintenance (in this case depending on the innovation or maintenance of dialect) the lexical data will be analysed on the basis of the dichotomies Coast vs. Mountain/inwards and Big Town vs. Small Town by which speakers conceptualise oppositions concerning social and linguistic dynamism or “recession”. The article is aimed at disclosing possible correlations between metalinguistic and linguistic outputs demonstrating how perceptual data represent useful patterns for the interpretation of linguistic issues.
