Abstract
Giuseppe Mazzini and Francesco Crispi were very close friends. Theirrelationship is a typical case of political friendship in the nineteenthcentury. The first one was the political teacher and the living icon ofItalian republicans. After the Unity, Crispi decided to leave republicanside and to support constitutional parliament, even if undermonarchy, unlike Mazzini, who wished conspire against the reign.This astonishing choice divided him from his old teacher Mazzini,and this loud breach between two great friends and democrat leadersbroke the Left too.
