Abstract

In this volume, after outlining an organic panorama of the so-called elegiac Latin comedies of the 12th and 13th centuries, the age-old question of the actual possibility of representing these texts is discussed, trying to show - also on the basis of some glosses of Arnolfo di Orléans and a whole series of spies and internal clues to the texts themselves - as some theatrical rendering must certainly be hypothesized, at least for some of these comedies. The topics addressed here concern the alternation, in comic-elegiac compositions, between narrative parts and monological and / or dialogic sections; the "internal" captions; possible relationships with the giullaresca tradition; the coexistence, within some elegiac comedies, of diversified textual typologies (novelistic, satirical, burlesque, farce). Among the comic-elegiac texts examined, ample space is reserved for Geta by Vital of Blois, Alda by William of of Blois, Pamphilus, Babio, De clericis et rustico, De mercatore and De Paulino et Polla by Riccardo da Venosa.
