This paper is aimed to analyze the ancient road system in a selected area of the Southern Sicily, between Agrigento and Licata (Cignana survey project). The focus are the connections between settlements and main roads, the so-called via Selinuntina, the Catina-Agrigentum and some transversal pathways. The archaeological research has been mainly concentrated on the long-distance routes along the coasts or in the interior, leaving out the importance of the secondary roads; the latter often follow the courses of the main streams, are very important road networks and ways of connection between rural settlements and the coast.
