Energy saving and the rational use of natural resources in the building process, nowadays, arevery debated environmental issues, involving researchers and companies in the production andtesting of innovative materials. Reducing the consumption of resources means more durablebuildings, thus an important contribution in this way is given by the knowledge of thedurability of products and building components. This is fundamental when innovative productsare applied and no information are available on their service life. The research concerns theevaluation of the durability of cement-based photocatalytic coatings, containing different typesof pigments, used for external finishing of buildings. These products were prepared usingphotocatalytic cements by Italcementi (TX Active®). The investigated aspects were: thephotocatalytic activity, conferring self-cleaning attitude, and the colorimetry. The ISO 15686methodology was followed, by means of accelerated ageing tests in climatic chamber andnatural ageing tests.
