Abstract
Atra. Renai pathologies bave an hard impact onili children's life style, psychic and physical development.Inthelastyears, evenif medicai curesallowed these children to live longer and to bavea better quality of life, today both their familiesand themselves bave to face a lot of difficultiesdue to thè kind of pathology. These cbildrenshow behaviour troubles, bad sociability, aggressiveness,poorschool performance, anxietyand depression, and then thè subjects with chronicrenai failure show a retard in neurological andcognitive development In this study we evatuatedthè impact that thè chronic renai illness has onchildren and adolescente' quality life.Methods. Por this study, we bave used thè Impactof Childhood Illness Scale. It includes 30 questionsthat value 4 aspects of thè child and family'slife style: illness and ite treatment, impact ondie child, impact on parente and impact on thèfamily. For every question, it considera thè frequencyof thè problem and thè degree of thèworry that it causes. We gave thè questionnaireto 47 couples of parents' children who are sufferingfrom chronic renai diseases (19 subjectswith nephrotic syndrome, 7 with chronicglomerulenephritis, 10 with chronic renai failure,5 diab/sed, 6 with kidney transplant). AHparents compiled thè questìonnaire.Resulls. The obtained resuite showed that developingage subjects, who are affected bychronic renai diseases, can nave emotìonal and behavioural difficulties that bave an effect onsubject and on bis family. Their parents livein a continuous stress state because chronicpain and anxiety cause depression, a sense ofinadequacy and frustration.Conclusion. As in every chronic physical illness,thè sick child and bis family are obligedto face a series of physical, behavioural andemotional changes. Besides, they are faced bypossible collateral effects of thè illness and ofite treatments on development.
