The text describes the types of research in the didactic field; points out the areas most represented on the Italian scene in recent years and the areas considered priority for the next few years; indicates a methodology capable of improving educational practice already during the carrying out of the research actions; provides suggestions to ensure the quality of teaching research regardless of the survey method used. The arguments developed are animated by the profound conviction that it is not possible to do research in Didactics without the collaboration and comparison of university researchers with teachers and educators in general.
