Abstract
This paper analyzes the stone sector in Sicily in the period 2007-2009, with particular reference to the system of Custonaci, one of the representative sites of the Sicilian marble. The sector has gone through a deep crisis aggravated by structural elements such as the lack of coordination between operators. The research carries out an analysis on the main structural, economic and financial characteristics of a representative sample of 25 companies in the area in order to verify the existence of a consolidated network of enterprises and the applicability, to this reality, of A district theoretical model. This paper indicates the need for the creation of a network system between companies and the strategic importance of social capital, whose lack has contributed to the crisis in the sector in recent year
