The prophetic-utopian message of Capitini’s teaching offers to the new generations an unprecedented concept of democratic education as religious practice. His exceptional foresight points the way to a “practical mysticism”, matured through the study of Western and Eastern cultures. Here, a paidetic action turns the human relationship with God from a personal, intimate meeting to one taking place in the presence of all beings, both living and dead. Democracy is a religious and educational practice where silence acquires an educational value: the encounter with God leads the person to plunge into the world and transform it. Religion, education, politics and democracy are intertwined with compresence; religion becomes open, above any particular confession, and is committed to educate to a political love. An education inspired by paidetic mysticism is to promote a democracy that safeguards the individual’s privacy, whilst cultivating its public dimension, thus fostering its participation in a world marked by complexity and pluralism. Capitini’s is a pedagogical project indicating new educational paths to the planetary man who, at a time of political crisis, discovers in omnicracy a pedagogical challenge to the conflict between globalization and political democracy.
