Abstract
The essay outlines some characteristics of the viceroy's court in Sicily in the Habsburg period: his family, the circle of confidants, composition and articulation of institutional roles, costs, forms of involvement. An articulated context emerges, a scenario in which powers of different intensity and competing on the territory were confronted, jurisdictional clashes, property disputes and matrimonial agreements, disputes and private vendettas were determined: elements that highlight the complexity of the relationship between peripheral nobility and power central, interpersonal relationships and networks at an international level, widespread negotiation practices, which confirm the representation of a kingdom by no means passive to the will of Madrid.
