Abstract

Manual suturing still remains the best techniquefor the creation of vascular anastomoses on uremic patientswith excellent results, despite being time consuming, difficultto perform with small vessels, and associated with asignificant learning curve. We created a full mechanicalarteriovenous fistula on a 65-year-old uremic patient with anew device already used in cardiac bypass surgery. Thefistula was created automatically and rapidly, withoutthe need for temporary occlusion of the artery, reducing therisk of blood clotting.We believe that mechanical devicesmay be useful to produce precise and fast anastomosesrequiring minimal training for the surgeon.
