With the arrival in Palermo of viceroy Marco Antonio Colonna, strong supporter of a renewed urban policy and in office from 1577, it begins a brand new phase not only for capital's architecture, but also for the city of Messina. His strong action seems mostly pointed towards decoration's aims and civil magnificence and it determines a turning point, starting a project of urban regeneration. From an accurate survey, based on documents, this paper intends to analyze a series of interventions and the most significant and remarkable public creations, promoted and started by the viceroy in those years (1577-1584).
