Abstract

The contribution wants to reflect on the theme of reception and integration in relation to current migratory flows and what were the answers from the architectural production. The attention to the migratory phenomenon stems from its evident relevance, since it puts into action processes of socio-cultural transformation and coexistence between cultures. In a contemporary reality, therefore, in which different cultures and beliefs increasingly en- rich our cities and the encounter with the Other becomes a constant expression in everyday life situations, one wonders: how the architecture has tried to give solutions to complex issues related to the migration phenomenon? The recent architectural production has given partial answers on the theme of reception and integration, often identifying the architecture connected exclusively to the emergence logics in which the nature of the buildings, together with the choice of sites (extremely peripheral), have favored exclusion. social and urban. On the other hand, interesting answers can be found in the research carried out within the various Italian universities, which highlighted the role of man in the constitution of the ar- chitectural project by explaining the relationship between places of living and migratory phenomena. The educational experiments concern the experiences carried out within the Architectural Design Laboratories at the Department of Architecture of Palermo (D’Arch), and those deve- loped within the Villard de Honnecourt International Design Seminar. The contributions of didactic research, aimed at the recovery of landscapes, artefacts and memories, have intended to offer answers related to housing, religious and welcoming needs of the different cultures that inhabit our cities, as an opportunity for reflection on the values of peaceful coexistence of men.
