Since human beings became sapiens sapiens, a semiosphere came up beside the biosphere. With such a word we refer to an heterogeneous bunch of elements that, differently from biosphere, have to do with the mental capabilities of our specie. We can imagine such a space full of cultural products: words, pictures, discourses but also objects, buildings, food etc., elements that are pooled together by the fact that they all produce meanings. Dealing with semiospheres then leads to a double goal: individuating and describing the languages that each text uses, and addressing the translational processes that take place inside complex semiotic systems.
