N2 - Michele Vella, sculptor and antiquarian of Agrigento, born in nearby Raffadali, is known through chronicles and accounts of foreign travelers who visited "the city of temples" duringin the last few decades of the eighteenth century. Prior to devote himself to the study of ancient Agrigento and to become a "guide" of famous visitors, such as Goethe, he began to develop a treatise on architecture dedicated in 1766 to the bishop Andrea Lucchesi Palli. The unfinished manuscript titled Vari Componimenti d'Architettura is now located at the Library Lucchesiana of Agrigento.
