Abstract
The paper presents and discusses two testamentary documents of FrancescoII Moncada (1569-1593) and his mother Luisa de Luna y Vega (1553-1620), who administeredthe city of Caltanissetta, in central Sicily, making it the site of their patronage.The documents present two rich lists of horses reared in Mimiani’s hunting lodge and«mercati de lo merco della racza Moncada». Most horses are not only identified throughtheir physical features by also through their names. However, in a time span of just thirtyyears, mother and son chose different onomaturgical techniques. The two documents willpresent some interesting first occurrences of Hispanisms.
