Green vs Traditional Roofs: Assessing their Actual Benefits through an Integrated Indicator Developed for Cool Roofs

Risultato della ricerca: Conference contribution

Abstract

Green roofs have caught on in cities, mainly becausecontribute positively to thermal behaviour of buildingsequipped with them. This paper investigates theapplicability to these roofs of an integrated indicator, developed by Levinson and Akbari, to assess thecontribution of cool roofs to buildings’ energyconsumption. A building, assumed as the reference for theItalian medium size offices, was considered and its energyperformance with and without the green roof wasassessed. Different sites with different climatic conditionswere considered for the simulations. First results indicatethat such indicator does not seem to be completelytransferable to green roofs.
