N2 - Goethe's journey and stay in Sicily is absoloutely one of the great literary myths of Modernity. From it - true "mythological machine" - the ranks of Goethezeit's great projects depart, and from it, from the mythologies around the longed-for Arcadia, to theories on universal analogy exemplified by the metamorphosis of plants, from color theory to the most personal myths of training of the artist. When Goethe, on 20 May 1815, wrote to his friend Karl Friedrich Zelter (1758-1832) that his Italienische Reise would become a "pretty fairy tale" (anmuthiges Märchen) he became aware of the author of this mythologization.
