Abstract
Thirty years later many doubts and misunderstanding, in 2019 a reform of Italian Criminal Procedure has radically excluded the summary proceedings (“giudizio abbreviato”) for life imprisonment crimes. On the level of systemic policies in the era of penal populism, the rewriting of special proceedings rules has been electively finalized to the stiffening of the penal treatment, converging on the goal of making life imprisonment rigid, subtracted from any flexibility; the criminal trial then regresses to the “silent servant” stage, enslaved to the need to magnify the repressive goals in the construction of a security and fear mass society.
