Abstract
The range of modes and scales for architecture’s depiction in paintings is very wide, changing from the use of the architectural image as a set -depicting interior or exterior spaces- to contextualize a story, to its rise to the role of main subject of the pictorial representation, often charged with meanings and symbolic allusions. The will to present and to put in a sequence this variety of modes of depicting and seeing architecture in painting (and also in some examples of wooden inlay) led the project for the exhibition entitled Arquitecturas pintadas. Del Renacimiento al siglo XVIII, made in Madrid (18 October 2011-22 January 2012), under the direction of Delfin Rodríguez and Mar Borobia. The idea behind the project was critically developed also within the related catalogue.
