Evoluzione tipologica e tecnologica dei sistemi di abitazione per l'emergenza _ Typological and technological evolution of housing systems for emergency

Risultato della ricerca: Otherpeer review

The types of temporary residence nowadays used in case of emergency can be brought back to two fundamental structural systems: flexible envelope system and hard covering one. From these derive a mixed system in which flexible elements are integrated with rigid elements, creating interesting solutions both technological and formal.Tent belongs to flexible systems. It's the expression of nomadic cultures, along with all the lightweight, extendable and/or inflatable structures, such as, panto-graph, pneumatic structures or tensile structure. Home backs to the rigid systems. It is the symbol of permanent structures, whence containers and prefabricated rice, but also the caravans and camper. From these arrays of architectural tradition originates the vast production on the market nowadays. In particular, the shelters, still predominantly used during disaster intervention, are classified into four types: tent, caravan, containers and prefabricated house, which follows the ultimate building. These types are definite in a classification, developed by International Relief Agencies, which provides for three categories of disaster response: emergency, provisional, permanent. The tent remains irreplaceable as a permanent first emergency shelter, but the trailer, container and prefabricated house, immediately highlighted their inconsistencies due to the total absence of the basic parameters for an adequate availability. And this is because it is almost always units designed for specific uses and which are adapted to requirements other than those for which it was designed. The paper introduces the result of a study carried on by the Department of Ar-chitecture of Polytechnic School of University of Palermo, on the state of the art of housing systems for emergency, in particular on aspects not sufficiently re-solved about the solutions to ensure quality housing of the product in terms of materials, comfort, safety, environmental impact and versatility.
