This essay examines the pivotal role that writing and female charactershold in the as yet little-explored work of Sciascia as an anthologist. From1977 to 1982, Leonardo Sciascia worked on an anthology for Middle School,L’età e le età, published by Palumbo between 1980 and 1983. Sciascia’sattention to female voices is surprising. Not only did he insert many femaleauthors in the list of authors to study, but he also emphasized the value ofthe female point of view as a privileged perspective from which to interpretsocial transformation.
