N2 - The Covid-19 pandemic impacted on the population in unprecedented terms, both for its economic and for its socio-spatial implications. Social distancing measures and restrictions on the use of public spaces are permanently changing our relationship with urban spaces. At the same time, space also represents a crucial dimension in the construction of policies for preventing, managing and contrasting the spread of the virus. Therefore, this chapter describes a proposal the authors are currently working on, regarding the creation of “DEMOSPACES” (DEMOcratic Spatial Practices for ACtive and Engaged Societies). This project aims to explore how personal and collective safety and the need for social relations can be reconciled through the innovative use of small-scale socialization spaces.
