The need for fast product delivery causes the attentionof supply chain is addressed to strategies able tooptimize the distribution process. In this field the crossdockingseems to be an efficient strategy which makespossible to reduce or eliminate the storage phase bymeeting customer demand. In this paper a transshipmentproblem for cross-docking strategy is considered bymeans of a deterministic model studied through the nonlinear programming technique. The solution foundallows to determine the optimal quantities to ship, thenumber of routes activated and the optimal trucknumber when the constraint on truck capacity isenforced. The influence of the demand fluctuation isalso addressed through a simulation tool representingthe cross-docking system. Finally the comparisonbetween the cross-docking strategy and the directdelivery one is considered in terms of cost efficiencyand trucks utilization.
