Ecological-functional connections in planning tools: the case of Vitoria-Gasteiz in Spain The article aims to investigate the issue of ecological-functional connections in terms of regulatory recognition within the planning tools. The issue, which is not adequately addressed by the scientific literature on ecological networks, becomes of crucial importance in the land use regulation. The case of Vitoria-Gasteiz, the capital of Pais Vasco in Spain, appears significant in this sense: the long path of construction of its Anillo verde within the urban plan, recognizes from the regulatory point of view the ecological-functional connections as well as the nodal components of the ecological network system.
