Since the last decades of 1990s, the themes of civic engagement, civic participation and political participation are intertwined with some crucial problems: political disaffection, distrust of institutions, the relationship between representative democracy and deliberative democracy, the role more and more crucial of digital media and social network in creating new forms of participation and in implementing forms of civic engagement inspired by bottom up participation processes. This book tries to answer to some questions about civic engagement raised in many fields of social action: social network, consumption, university, corporate responsibility, marginal urban area, social movements.
