Abstract
The new comic about Anna Akhmatova is an instance of transmedial translation; the new narrative however is not based on the writer's work but on her biography. This is justified by Akhmatova's conscious and active construction of her own life mythology. The lyrical hero of Akhmatova's poems started living her own life outside the texts: an analogous phenomenon has been observed concerning the heroes of mass-literature, Sherlock Holmes being an outstanding example.Consequently, the methodology which has been developed for the study of mass culture can be fruitfully applied to high literature – this does not mean that Akhmatova is a masscult writer, but rather that the distinction between both categories is relative.
