Abstract
Adieu, short and dramatic novel published by Balzac in 1830, stands at the intersection of different literary genres (historical novel, récit d’aliéné etc.) on which prevails a fantastic tonality that occurs in various forms during the narration. This article aims to demonstrate how the alternation of narrative registers significantly affects the identity status of the characters and how it is possible for them to find an interesting way of interpretation in the anamorphosis of the fantastic.
